Welsh

Why is Welsh important?

  • The course is one that includes a wide range of subjects, from the School World to the World Around Us with plenty of opportunities to expand your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Welsh.

  • Our aim is to try to ensure enjoyment of studying the subject and promote awareness that the Welsh language is important and relevant, that it is a natural part of our lives and that it should be respected and used.

  • Learning more than one language makes learning a third language easier!

  • The ability to speak more than one language is a great advantage for you in the workplace! Employers are looking for bilingual employees!

  • Support eisteddfodau, literary competitions, the local paper and the school radio. An opportunity for pupils to compete in various local and national competitions.

Why is English important?

  • The course covers a wide range of subjects, from Shakespeare to Contemporary Life with plenty of opportunities to expand your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English.

  • Our aim is to try to ensure enjoyment from studying the subject in order to gain confidence when communicating day to day in our society at a high level.

  • Advanced language skills are needed in order to communicate via the web, in letters and much more.

Employers are looking for employees who have standard English!

Modern Languages

Why are Modern Foreign Languages important?

  • The course covers a wide range of subjects, from shopping and food to sport and entertainment, with plenty of opportunities to expand your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in French.

  • The ability to speak additional languages makes you stand out.

  • Learning a new language can increase your brain power and improve your memory!

  • Learning a new language is a sport, and you will have better options for the future.

  • There will be an opportunity to go on trips to France and experience French life (and food!!!), and meet new people.

  • As well as French from year 7 to year 11, we also offer Spanish in years 10 and 11.
